F.002 — Brief

The Lisbon Tide Institute keeps one of the longest continuous tide records on the Atlantic coast: handwritten ledgers, punched tape, and the sensor feeds that replaced them. Researchers could read it. Nobody else ever had a reason to.

We stopped treating the record as a dataset and started treating it as a place. Every year became a contour, every storm a ridge you can feel under the scroll.

The interface has no charts. You walk the coastline in time, and the numbers surface only when you stop to look at them, the same way the water reveals the shore.

F.005 — Outcome

A public archive that a schoolchild and an oceanographer can open on the same afternoon, and leave with different, equally precise questions.

“They asked better questions in week one than we had asked in a year.”
